In the Potomac River near Georgetown, an 88.5-acre island memorializing the 26th president and ardent outdoorsman. Trails lead through the woods, across marshland and up to a plaza featuring a statue of Roosevelt plus four stone monoliths etched with his quotations. From the island’s perimeter, find stunning views of the Kennedy Center and Key Bridge arching to Georgetown. To access the park, cross the footbridge just off Virginia’s GW Parkway. No cars or bicycles. Daily 6 am-10 pm. Free.
