One of the most popular trails in the country, it stretches 11 miles from D.C.'s Georgetown to Silver Spring, Maryland, along a former segment of the B&O Railroad. The trail attracts runners, walkers and cyclists. (The surface is paved from Georgetown to Bethesda, Maryland; crushed stone from Bethesda to Silver Spring.)
