7 D.C. Wine Bars for Celebrating Mom All Week Long

The most important woman in your life deserves more than just a one-day celebration.

Mother's Day may have come and gone, but that doesn't mean the celebrations have to end. These seven D.C. wine bars extend the holiday and treat mom to a relaxing and delicious experience.

Barcelona Wine Bar

Escape to Spain at Barcelona Wine Bar without a passport. With a wine list that focuses on lesser-known regions in Spain and small producers in South America, plus a simple Mediterranean menu served tapas style, Barcelona makes a welcome relief for harried moms. Some of the wines here can’t be found anywhere else in the nation due to their small production and availability, so Barcelona makes a good first stop for those who love originality. Cathedral Heights: 3310 Wisconsin Ave. NW, 202.800.4100; Logan Circle (Credit/debit only): 1622 14th St. NW, 202.588.5500

Flight Wine Bar

Adventurous moms may want to check out Flight. With 22 wine samples to choose from, she really can try it all. Flights are themed with fun names such as “Like a Diamond in the Sky—Sparkling Trio,” “Rosé Colored Glasses,” and “I Like Oak and I Cannot Lie.” The wine bar also offers over 35 wines by the glass and a simple and seasonal dinner menu with dishes such as tuna crudo, braised octopus and flan. 777 6th St. NW, 202.864.6445

Dio Wine Bar

What better way to continue celebrating mom than by bringing her to the female-owned Dio Wine Bar? Featuring wines made with organic or biodynamic grapes, Dio serves a constantly rotating selection of by-the-glass varietals plus a program of 100 different bottles. A light menu of snacks (cheese and charcuterie) and bites such as deviled eggs and grilled cheese, pairs nicely. The third Wednesday of every month is “Women Wine Wednesday”—a celebration of ladies in the biz, which includes a “woman-driven” menu of wines by the glass and a women-centric playlist. 904 H St. NE, 202.506.3103

ENO Wine Bar

Wine, cheese and chocolate are the most important things at Eno Wine Bar, making it appealing for any mom who loves all three. Located next to the Four Seasons hotel, this bar serves up locally made artisan cheeses and chocolates paired with whichever wine you choose from the extensive wine list. 2810 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 202.342.0444

La Jambe

The owner of La Jambe hails from France, so you know the menu here offers some of the best in French wine, cheese and charcuterie—a fitting choice for any jetsetting mom. The small menu offers light fare such as gazpacho and more substantial plates such as the caprese panini, all beautifully paired with wines from regions all over France. Stop by for Happy Hour Tuesday-Friday when glasses are $5-$6. Shaw: 1550 7th St. NW, Union: 1309 5th St. NE

Maxwell Park

Looking for a not-so-serious experience? Maxwell Park has a special refrigeration system with four different temperature zones to bring out the flavors and nuances of each wine, making this bar a great option for moms who like to have things just so, but prefer a less “stuffy” atmosphere. This month Maxwell Park explores the “Pink Void”: a menu of yellow, orange, amber and pink wines with a distinctly Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” flare. If that’s not quite mom’s style, Maxwell Park also offers about 25 other wines by the glass, as well as over 500 bottles. 1336 9th St. NW, 202.792.9522
