Carmen at Sydney Opera House
An entire town obsessed with her, Carmen has no patience for the men fawning at her feet. Instead, she is intrigued by the shy allure of Don José, a small-town soldier who thinks only of his home, his mother, and the pretty Micaëla. The seductions and betrayals in Georges Bizet’s sultry opera “Carmen” are widely known, but in this new adaptation by Australian theatre legend John Bell (presented by Opera Australia), the twisted fates of the colourful characters get a bold new look-in, rife with emotional intensity and, of course, the infectious rhythms of the original Spanish tunes.
