Go Fetch! St. Louis' Top (Hot) Dogs

Keep summer going with its signature food, the all-American (or Jamaican, or Hawaiian) hot dog at these St. Louis eateries.

You can have summer's signature food year-round thanks to these locations.

At Woofie's, a drive-in whose tagline is "the hot dog with dignity," a ragtag menu board lists options like a Nathan dog (NY style) and Reuben dog; extras like tamales seal the deal.

Dogs 'n Frys serves those two things, but oh, what they do with them! Twenty-five+ varieties (like Hawaiian, Buffalo, PBJ dog and so on), plus hand-cut fries laden with mac'n'cheese, or coleslaw, or grilled jalapeños...or all!

Local musician Steve Ewing turned his fan base into dog lovers, with Steve's Hot Dogs, serving a mean veggie version alongside signature macs and an STL-Chicago hybrid dog.

For a real throwback, pack the family in the Woodie and motor on over to The Filling Station, packed with vintage drive-in and gas station décor (some might say kitsch), and serving hot dogs, brats and ice cream.

And just in case you were needing to pick up spackle or new paint while you're in town...don't despair, you can also get a terrific hot dog in the same trip. Yes, at the Home Depot in Brentwood, Dirty Dogz has fans who will go there simply for lunch, never stepping foot in the mega-retailer's main store. One main attraction? The massive variety of seasonings and sauces available to personalize your choice.
