Honoring America’s Veterans in Phoenix-Scottsdale

Veterans Day events honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Nov. 11—and the days surrounding it—the Valley of the Sun joins in honoring and celebrating United States military veterans.

EVENTS

From Nov. 5-7, veterans and their families can attend The HeroZona National Veteran Summit, held at Sheraton Crescent Hotel and Talking Stick Resort Arena. Events include executive roundtables, an employment summit, a job fair, workshops and Bridge Forum.

The Town of Carefree hosts several events beginning the weekend prior, including a Charity 3 Miler that starts at Carefree Town Hall at 9 am on Nov. 9. All ages and abilities are welcome—as are pets—to walk or run either 1 or 3 miles around the Carefree Desert Gardens and downtown Carefree. Proceeds from this event benefit Helping Hands for Freedom and other veterans charities.

The Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum holds its 10th Annual Gathering of Legends from 1-4 pm on Nov. 11 at the CAF Airbase Arizona. Generations of defenders share their experiences of military aviation, and John Mollison, creator and host of the series “Old Guys and Their Airplanes,” is the special guest speaker.

PARADES

The Phoenix Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 am Nov. 11 at Montebello and Central, runs southbound, turns east on Camelback Road, and then south on Seventh Street. More than 45,000 spectators will be out to cheer on the 300 marching units and 2,500 marchers.

The East Valley Veterans Parade is held in downtown Mesa, and draws more than 40,000 attendees to watch over 2,000 parade participants. This year’s theme is “Commemorate and Celebrate,” in honor of the 100th anniversary of Veterans Day, and the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The presentation begins on Nov. 11 at 10:30 am; the flyover and parade are at 11 am.
