WWII Museums

Oahu’s most popular—and somber—attraction is the USS Arizona Memorial. Dramatic photos of the Arizona’s burning superstructure symbolizes the losses on Dec. 7, 1941, forever seared into our nations’ conscience. The USS Bowfin submarine exhibit shares space with the Visitor Center, which allows a guided tour of this famous underwater warrior. Shuttles also take visitors to the USS Missouri—where the truce that ended WWII was signed—and for the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island. The newly renovated red-and-white tower presides over this growing collection of aircraft from the Pacific War to today’s modern jets, all housed in hangars still bearing the scars of Dec. 7.
