These seven bars in historic and eclectic East Nashville are not only some of the neighborhood's best stops, but they're also open until early morning hours. From barbecue to retro-chic, these should be on every night owl's list of go-tos.
As night falls, so do the pretenses at this East Nashville hot spot. Every night at 10:30 pm, The Treehouse transforms from a fine-dining establishment to a night owl’s haven. The 50-seat restaurant, which touts an evolving seasonal menu, isn’t difficult to spot—there’s a funky, lit-up tree house outside that serves as a landmark. The late-night menu is a roll-call of gourmet drinking food, including the “achiote pork, crema, p.r.o., [effing] hot sauce.” Open until 1 am Tuesday through Thursday, and until 3 am on Friday and Saturday. Food is served until 30 minutes before close.
This large restaurant and bar in the heart of East Nashville’s Five Points is all about Southern and Cajun cuisine. Non-smokers will love the first-floor bar and dining area, which are both smoke-free and 21-and-up zones. The huge horseshoe-shaped bar is the centerpiece—made with live-edge African bubinga wood, it’s a cozy threshold to over 60 bottled and 20 draft beer choices. Smokey’s Little Upstairs Bar calls the second floor home, and is an exclusive spot reserved for, you guessed it, smokers—full dining and bar service are also available. Open until 3 am daily.
Locals flock to this classic barbecue joint for the laid-back ambiance, great food and friendly waitstaff. The menu offers an enormous variety of choices, including Tex-Mex dishes, BBQ-topped salads, ‘cue classics and even a slew of vegetarian options. Open until 1 am Sunday through Thursday, and until 3 am on Friday and Saturday. Food served until one hour before close.
The 5 Spot
Cloak yourself in the stark-black walls of this retro-chic bar, where you’ll be surrounded by eclectic art and vinyl records that can be taken down and spun by request. Southern blues and jazz set the sonic ambiance while the beautiful oak bar illuminated by candlelight beckons you for a drink. Sip on two-buck brews while listening to live music on Two-Dollar Tuesdays. Open until 4 am daily.
The Lipstick Lounge
This tongue-in-cheek bar welcomes “all humans”—as long as those humans are 21 years of age or older. Both the food and drink menus are packed with fun concoctions, including burritos, tacos, arroz con pollo and whole lot more. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays with a Tex-Mex menu that will get your mouth watering. Open until 3 am daily; closed Mondays.
3 Crow Bar
This neighborhood favorite is popular for its innovative two-for-one happy hours, which take place every week day. When you buy your first beer, you’re given a token for a free beer. But no rush using that token—you can even save it to claim that free beer during your next visit. There are also darts, foosball and an outdoor patio. Open until 3 am daily.
Beyond the Edge
Sports fans find their happy place at this sports-themed bar in the Five Points area of East Nashville. Not only does this neighborhood stop offer an extraordinary beer menu—including 125 choices, to be exact—but it also comes equipped with 25 HDTVs that can play every major cable match-up. No wonder this has been voted one of the best sports bars in Nashville. Best yet, it’s open until 2:30 am every night of the week. Food served until 2 am.
