Labor Day is a federal holiday to honor laborers for their hard work and contributions to this country. Each Labor Day weekend is filled with special events for all to enjoy. Chicago is no exception. Whether you are residents or simply visiting, there are plenty of venues you can participate in and join in the celebration. 

Five Labor Day Events in Chicago

Chicago Jazz Festival

The Chicago Jazz Festival, a Labor Day weekend tradition, will bring back all things jazz this year citywide and in Millennium Park at the Chicago Cultural Center. The program consists of both local and international talents to awaken the appreciation and awareness of such a special form of art. The festivities are free and will take place from September 1 to 4.

Taste of Polonia Festival 2022

Taste of Polonia Festival is the largest and oldest Polish Festival in the United States. For four days over the Labor Day weekend each year, visitors can come as a family to enjoy live music, Polish and non-Polish food, entertainment and more. There will be four stages and over 30 bands for music performance and a Kids’ Stage and area for children’s activities as well. The festival is held from September 2 to 5th this year.

Fireworks Shows

The last fireworks Shows will be on Saturday, September 3, 2022. You can watch it at Navy Pier or other spots along the Lakefront. Some may prefer options such as fireworks lake or river cruise.

The Great American Lobster Fest

The Great American Lobster Fest this year begins at noon on September 2 and ends at 9:00 p.m. on September 4. There will be live music performances, shopping, fresh lobsters from the East Coast, non-seafood items, cold beverages and plenty of family fun. There are also wonderful desserts that one won’t want to miss. Festival entry is free to the public.

Chicago Labor Day Parade

The Chicago Labor Day Parade is held on Saturday, September 3, 2022. It will begin at noon on Ewing Ave and 104th street and head south on Ewing. It will finish at Eggers Grove Forest Preserve. This is an opportunity to bring together the community and the business to celebrate a special holiday and the meaning behind it.
