Happy 175th, Chicago

It’s only fitting that an exhibit celebrating Chicago’s 175th birthday should be mounted in one of the Windy City’s most historic spaces. Set in the City Gallery in the Historic Water Tower—the only public building to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871—Chicago’s Demisemiseptcentennial Exposition 2012 showcases the city’s history from a variety of different angles. From the Park District and the Chicago River to the evolving skyline and the city’s role in the publishing industry, the exhibit’s aquatint engravings, vibrant prints, and vintage posters and photographs colorfully illustrate just how far this town has come.
