Take a step back in time and practice some old-fashioned courtship rituals at Levine Museum of the New South. As part of the award-winning exhibit “Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers,” you can challenge your date to a game of checkers on the front porch of a mill house and stroll down a replica of Main Street from the early 1900s while discovering how Charlotte has changed since the Civil War. After dinner, walk to Mert’s Heart and Soul to sample Southern fare like fried chicken, mac and cheese and cornbread. Spend the afternoon pedaling around NoDa and South End, sampling the offerings at some of the best craft breweries in town. Charlotte NC Tours offers a “Bikes and Brews” tour that’s perfect for adventurous couples. The guided ride includes stops at two or three of the following places: NoDa Brewery, Birdsong Brewery, Growlers Pour House, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Triple C Brewery Company, or World of Beer. Learning about the brewing process and loosening up over local libations is sure to spark conversation. At the end, go back to your favorite brewery to compare tasting notes over dinner. Move to the Music

Spend the evening cozying up to your date on the dance floor to the sultry sounds of the blues. If you work up an appetite on the dance floor, grab a booth at the Midnight Diner. It’s hard to beat a buttermilk biscuit sandwich after midnight. Double Door Inn, 1218 Charlottetowne Ave., 704.376.1446; Midnight Diner, 115 E. Carson Blvd., 980.207.3641
