Charleston County Parks

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission operates over 11,000 acres of property including beach parks, fishing piers, a plantation historic site, boat landings, waterparks, a campground, and several event facilities. We also offer a number of recreational services including camps, festivals and programs.

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) runs a diverse park system in Charleston County that includes: James Island, Palmetto Islands and Wannamaker County Parks - three nature-oriented parks with recreation offerings, bicycle paths, boardwalks, dog parks, meeting facilities and covered picnic shelters; Caw Caw Interpretive Center - a center rich in natural, cultural, and historical resources; and Mullet Hall Equestrian Center – host of exhibitions, festivals, and competitive horse shows. These four facilities, collectively, offer over 40 miles of trails.

The agency also operates three family waterparks – Whirlin' Waters, Splash Zone and Splash Island; two beachfront parks – Kiawah Beachwalker Park and Isle of Palms County Park; a 125-site campground and vacation cottages on James Island; the Cooper River Marina, with 165 deep-water boat slips; water access via 19 boat landings; and two fishing piers – the Mount Pleasant Pier and the Folly Beach Fishing Pier.CCPRC offers a wide variety of water-based programs such as kayaking, canoeing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, crabbing, seining, and other interpretive programs.

Other outdoor activities include hiking, biking, trail riding, gardening, and birding. James Island County Park is home to a 50' climbing wall, as well as a newly redesigned high ropes Challenge Course for teambuilding. Special events include: Lowcountry Cajun Festival, Latin American Festival, Harvest Festival, Pet Fest and other pet-related events, East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival, fishing tournaments, a concert series, pier dances, triathlons and races, and a 52-night Holiday Festival of Lights.
