Ether Dome at Mass General Hospital

More than 8,000 operations took place here from 1821-1868, but the Ether Dome is particularly significant because it is the site where Dr. John Warren performed the first surgery without the patient experiencing pain. On a visit today, examine unique architecture, a small collection of artifacts and early surgical tools, and a 2,500-year-old Egyptian mummy named Padihershef. Free. Open 9 am-8 pm, except when conference is in session.
