Blue Man Group
The Blue Man Group was formed in 1987 by three close friends, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton, all wearing blue masks and turning up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side to celebrate the end of the 1980s. What appeared to be a minor event drew the attention of passers-by, and they began to perform many small shows at downtown clubs as a result; in 1991, they had their entire performance at the Astor Place Theatre. The Blue Man Group is known for its stage shows incorporating music and art. Instead of wearing a blue mask, they paint their skin blue and always appear in groups of three. The group is now performing at Charles Playhouse all summer to January 1, 2023.
Anastasia the Musical
“Anastasia The Musical” is the adaptation of the 1997 film of the same title. It’s the story of an orphan girl with no memory of the past. She went on a long journey to search for her family with the help of two con artists. The show will run for nearly two weeks (August 17 to August 28, 2022) at the Citizens Bank Opera House. It is recommended for ages seven and up.
A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical
“A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical” will be brought to life through July 31, 2022, at Emerson Colonial Theatre. This show pays tribute to his life, career and music. The production features songs such as “Song Sung Blue,” “Sweet Caroline,” “I am…I said,” and many more.
1776- The Musical
The events that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence are the basis for this musical. John Adam’s efforts to convince his peers to vote for the Independence and sign the world-famous document that signifies America’s freedom. “1776- The Musical” is now playing at Loeb Drama Center from 7/8 - 7/9, 7/15 - 7/16 and from 7/22 to 7/24.
The musical is based on the book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by using the characters and setting of the novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. It is told from the witches’ point of view. “Wicked” plays at Citizens Bank Opera House and ends on July 24, 2022.
Don’t miss “HAIRSPRAY” starring Nina West (of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” at Citizens Bank Opera House from October 18-30, 2022. The beloved musical production about a teenage girl in 1960s Baltimore brings all of the fan-favorite hit songs to Boston, so you can sing along to classic hits like “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”
TINA: The Tina Turner Musical
After a long stint on Broadway in New York City, “TINA: The Tina Turner Musical” is bringing its fantastic talents to Boston from September 20-October 2, 2022, at Citizens Bank Opera House. The stunning musical production follows the life and success of Tina Turner through the ages.
This thrilling production follows the six wives of Henry VIII in a musical journey of girl power. The NYC production won Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written For the Theatre and Best Costume Design of a Musical at the Tony Awards this year, and “SIX” comes to Boston from November 6, 2022, to January 13, 2023, at Emerson Colonial Theatre.
