Jacob Kemp stars as Davey in Disney's "Newsies" playing June 23-July 5 at Boston's Opera House. In honor of the Broadway tour visiting the Boston-bred actor's hometown, Kemp shows us around and gives us insider information on his favorite things to do.
I’m definitely an early-to-bed, early-to-rise man. I would force [anyone visiting me] out of bed to catch a sunrise run on the Charles River following Storrow Drive, because it is the perfect way to see the expanse and beauty of Boston.
After breakfast at Beacon Hill Bistro (a lovely modern bistro that uses local and organic ingredients), we would walk around the historic neighborhood, which embodies the history of the city.
Then we'd head over to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, because it fills the senses in every possible way: gardens, art, collections.
Having already bought a copy of [the book] "Make Way for Ducklings" for my friend, it is time to head over to the Public Garden to ride in the Swan Boats. This is one of those cherished memories from my childhood that I love to share.
Catch incredible Berklee students jamming out along Newbury Street—we’ll hear and see some of the stars of tomorrow.
Then head over to Formaggio Kitchen in Huron Village, because, well, it’s a foodie’s paradise. We can grab snacking materials.
[If it's Sunday and we have time, we can] maybe even sneak in the SOWA Open Market to browse the awesome artist booths, great antiques, and farm stands.
Dinner in the North End, because I believe it has the best Italian [outside of] in Italy. Because this is my fantasy day in Boston, we'd pick up many desserts to take with us to the Hatch Shell to see the Boston Pops, and of course, on this perfect night, our man James Taylor will be performing with them.
That's a perfect, glorious day in my hometown.
