The Gems at Geppi's

At Geppi's Entertainment Museum, the art and innovation of comics that star black superheroes

GEM stands for Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, a privately owned treasure house of pop culture—from mechanical toys of the 1700s to superheroes of the Internet age. Through April, Milestones: African Americans in Comics, Pop Culture and Beyond spotlights characters and stories created by, some say, “a renaissance of Black writers and artists.”
Enhanced by interactive kiosks and a scavenger hunt, the exhibition reveals African-American contributions to movies, music, art and TV as well as to action comics and graphic novels. Pictured is a prime example, an illustration for a work soon to be published by Dark Horse Comics, The Underground by Michael Davis.
