It’s no surprise that Atlantans go wild during peach season. The juicy stone fruit makes its appearance in late spring and hangs around through the summer. Simply biting into one is delightful, but our city’s bartenders and chefs don’t shy away from getting creative with them, either. Below, we share four of the city’s best peach treats.
In Ponce City Market, chef Andrew Cacioppo of Brezza Cucina ingeniously incorporates peaches into a summertime pizza. The pie is topped with peaches, ‘Ndjua salumi, ricotta cheese, thyme and garlic confit and baked in a wood-fired oven. The sweet peaches temper the heat of the spicy salami; the overall package is a pizza that’s not too heavy.
Georgia on My Mind Cocktail
If you like your peaches in liquid form, head over to Sweet Auburn BBQ in Poncey-Highland. The Georgia on My Mind cocktail is a playful blend of bourbon, peach shrub, lemon juice, peach puree and mint. The shrub gives the drink a tangy bite, while the peach puree balances the bourbon’s oaky notes.
Anna Gatti, chef-owner of Doughnut Dollies, knows her way around dough. The brown butter peach shortcake is a 24-hour brioche doughnut that’s been tossed in sugar and stuffed with brown butter-roasted peaches and whipped cream to order. It’s like a peach cobbler, but in breakfast form. You can find it at the Marietta shop and soon at the forthcoming West Midtown location.
Shotgun Wedding Turkey Burger
At Wade’s Fine Eatery and Good Time Emporium in Smyrna, a quick drive from The Battery Atlanta, you’ll find a tasty sweet and savory combo in the Shotgun Wedding turkey burger. A juicy turkey patty is topped with provolone, cacio e pepe mayo, red onions and peach chutney.
