This speedway gives the green flag to stock car drivers competing in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series every Friday night from March through September. Special racing events are held on Saturday nights. You’ll see more than 115 entries competing each week on the half-mile dirt track in Weekly Series ministock, street stock, pure stock, 440, and late-model division events. The speedway also hosts other motor sports events, concerts, and festivals on weekends throughout the year. The racing is handled by NASCAR officials, who keep things moving at a brisk pace. Oglethorpe Speedway is on Jesup Road off US 80 in West Chatham County. The 5,000-seat aluminum grandstand was built in 1995 and is wheelchair accessible. Tickets for Weekly Racing Series events are sold at the gate and are $10 for adults and teens and $8 for senior citizens and persons in the military. Children ages 6 to 12 are $3, and those younger than age 6 are admitted free. Parking is also free; there’s a park for recreational vehicles, and primitive camping is available at no charge. The gates open at 5:30 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m.
