Portland Entertainment+Nightlife: The Horse Brass Pub
The Horse Brass Pub
No visit to Portland is complete without a stop at the Horse Brass for a pint of bitter and a game of darts. This gem of a place is a pub in the finest and truest sense of the word, offering plenty of atmosphere and 46 draughts of the finest microbrewed and imported beers, including Rogue YSB, the house beer for the Horse Brass Pub. Since 1976—more than a decade before most Portlanders had even heard of microbrews—the Horse Brass Pub has been a haven for crafted ales and authentic, home-style British fare. It is a noisy, gregarious place where folks have a smashing good time at the full bar or at one of the large round tables that bring friends and strangers together. The Horse Brass has been notorious for its smoky—very smoky— atmosphere, but in January 2009, an indoor smoking ban at all Oregon bars, clubs, and restaurants went into effect. While a crisis for some Horse Brass fans, this change is welcomed by others. Your frothy pint should taste just as refreshing, and you’ll be able to see the dartboard more clearly.
