Portland Attractions: Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens

Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens

Well worth the drive, the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens are easy to find. Just take I-5 north of Vancouver, look for exit 21 and follow the signs. It’s a lovely garden, especially during the annual Lilac Festival held during April and May each year, when dozens of varieties of lilacs are in full bloom. The lilacs truly flourish and flower on these well-kept and fertile grounds. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a large collection of antique dolls and period furniture and artifacts. There is also a small gift shop. The Lilac Gardens are open year-round, but are most popular, and most crowded, when the blossoms are in flower in late spring or early summer. Gardeners from throughout Washington and Oregon come to buy cuttings and seedlings to plant in their own gardens. The Mager House is open for tours during the Lilac Festival. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
