Boston New England Region: Fort Adams Park

Fort Adams Park

Situated strategically on a prime piece of land between Newport harbor and Narragansett Bay this fort has guarded the city since colonial days. Named after President John Adams, it was once equipped with mountings for 468 cannons and a wartime garrison of 2,400 men. Visitors can now picnic on the grassy fields, explore tunnels beneath the walls of the fort, stroll the parade field and view officers' quarters. Guided tours available. June-October, open daily 10 am to 4 pm.
